You do not need to be a citizen or a permanent resident to be insured in Canada. Several Canadian life insurers underwrite applicants who have lived in Canada for six months or more and are on an eligible immigration path. Each insurer sets its own eligible programs, coverage limits and evidence requirements, and they differ. Metacap Financial is a licensed life insurance agency with access to multiple insurers through a managing general agency, so we place your coverage with the carrier whose rules fit your permit, your program and the amount you need. We serve clients in British Columbia and Ontario, in English, Mandarin and Cantonese.
How a newcomer application works
The pattern is similar across insurers: proof of your immigration status (a work permit, a nomination letter or a permanent residence application in progress), a short health questionnaire, a nurse visit for larger amounts, and a cover letter from us explaining your program and your intention to settle in Canada. The amount available depends on your program and occupation, and on which insurer we apply to. We compare before we apply.
One option, term coverage that rewards healthy habits, is explained in detail on our companion site.

When the business comes
Many of the people who arrive on a skilled-worker or provincial nominee path incorporate a business or a professional practice within a few years. At that point the questions change: who should own the insurance, how surplus should be held, and how the estate will be taxed. Those are the questions this site is about, and the term policy you buy now can be converted to permanent coverage later without new medical underwriting. We plan for that from the first conversation.
What to bring to a first conversation
Your work permit or nomination letter, your date of arrival in Canada, your occupation, and a sense of the coverage you need. We will tell you which insurers fit and what each will ask for.
